In 1976, Travis began, per his Changeling Troupe agreement, shopping Changeling to Hollywood record and film companies. Bond Johnson, upon completion of his company's first co-production, Kingdom of the Spiders, was looking for a next project. Igo Kanter, who in addition to producing Kingdom of the Spiders, was the music coordinater for The Monkees TV Series, invited Bond to hear an "exciting musical project" brought to him for consideration. Bond was awestruck by the Changeling music. He arranged to meet Travis to learn more about him and the story behind the music, which led to Bond's initial production proposal of 9 February 1977. Ultimately, when it was jointly decided to prep a feature film rather than a stage play, Cine-Media was unable to secure its new multi-million dollar budget. Their continuing business relationship was established when Bond asked Travis to write the Cine-Media screenplay adaptation of Mary Stewart's novel, Airs Above the Ground, and Travis became Cine-Media's Director of Production, a relationship cited below, that continued even after Travis formed his own production company, Otherworld Entertainment Corporation, in 1988. |
