*In 1973, Travis wrote a romantic drama based on his song End of Summer and placed the property with Raoul Alteresco's Beaux Arts Productions. It was Raoul who invited Travis to a Christmas party that was attended by several other members of the Hollywood Foreign Press, at Jack and Ellen Hibler's house at the top of Nichol's Canyon, where Travis played the song. Gerard Alcan, then editing The Second Gun, was deeply moved by the music and wanted to use it in his film. Gerard said, It exactly captured the tragic feeling of that time, the sense of irretrievable loss. Co-producer Ted Charach concurred and the rest is history. It was not what I had intended, says Travis, but I did it, without the lyrics and vocal, and played a few 'zingers,' which was all the film needed. Following the success of "The Wilderness Family" (1974), and "Across the Great Divide" (1976), Gerard and Ellen brought Travis on board as the 1st Assistant Director on a never distributed Sci-Fi flick Travis now calls MonkyBiz. |
