"2017 OTHERWORLD COTTAGE INDUSTRIES AND
NEW PLAYWRIGHTS FOUNDATION BOOTH AT THE
LOS ANGELES TIMES FESTIVAL OF BOOKS AND
1967 RECORDING "IF I DIDN'T LOVE YOU GIRL"
ON ITS 3RD ALBUM, AND STATE RECORDS RELEASES TWO SONGS FROM FEELIN' GOOD
Le Beat Bespoki is an international festival held in London every Easter and a compilation series of underground sixties club sounds often overlooked on release but revered by djs, dancers and collectors today. The majority of songs on volume 7 are from the USA and include some unreleased gems and an exclusive Dr Robert remix. The discs are tried and tested at London club night the Mousetrap where the cool and curious gather for hipshakin fun, once Im satisfied they have passed The Mousetrap test I start spinning them on my adventures. Some of these songs have made it onto this album for your dancing, listening and partying pleasure! I hope you get as much pleasure out of them as I do.
6. If I Didnt Love You Girl Travis Pikes Tea Party
Cheers! Rob Bailey, Jan 2017
If I Didnt Love You Girl was recorded by Karl Garrett (lead guitar), Phil Vitale (drums), Mike Valente (bass), George Brox (rhythm guitar), and Travis Pike (lead singer/songwriter), at Bostons AAA recording studios in late 1967 and released on Alma Records. The band performed it on the short-lived WBZ-TV program Here and Now. The song was well-received, but the rest of the TV show proved too controversial for there and then. A legitimate single release featuring both tracks with the original label artwork will be released this summer and available through the Nutstore.

The clever folks at State Records (UK) viewed the Feelin' Good music clips on Youtube, and immediately secured the rights to release a vinyl single 45 rpm recording of the Travis Pike and the Brattle Street East's performance of "Watch Out Woman" and "The Way I Need You," salvaged from the original, monoraul, optical soundtrack. ANd then, honoring the fact that the new release was recorded a half century earlier, they created an impressive aged and faded looking sleeve, submitted it for reviews and their never-before-release began getting excellent reviews from a number of popular music magazines in the US and UK. For Otherworld Cottage Industries, it began to look like Travis Pike's film cans of "ancient baggage" might actually be an unexpected treasure trove!

LOS ANGELES TIMES FESTIVAL OF BOOKS
The Festival of Books was a huge affaisr, but the NPF booth was nowhere near center stage and foot traffic was either loaded down and leaving, or hurrying in to the central marketplace to see what was being offered there. But it was a lesson learned for those of us who'd never exhibited at a book fair before.
A number of New Playwrights Foundation members wanted to rent a booth at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. Five novels were offered by members, but as Chairman Emeritus, Travis was concerned that no stage plays or screenplays would be represented. Travis decided to submit his Morningstone screenplay, then retitled Changeling's Return. But time was short, and attempting to reformat screenplay to fit into a 6x9 inch paperback was a nightmare. THe screenplay format wouldn't convert intelligently to Word, much less keep itsCharacter capitalization, indents for characters and spoken lines of even scene changes and descritions. He did the best he could in the short time allowed, rushed it to the printer with an order for 100 copies and waived striking a proof be sure it arrived in time. They books arrived in time, but the re formatting was a disaster. The book was displayed, but not sold, and ultimate Travis destroyed them all.
BOOK RECALLED AND DISCONTINUED!
THE SCREENPLAY FORMAT DID NOT TRANSFER WELL

The banner tells the story,
and Travis Edward Pike was really there.
He was definitely not alone.
We were all carefully scheduled.
Kendall Noxcell read at noon.
Doug Lunsford read at 1:00 pm.
Grace Bruno had been on earlier,
and now it was Alice Lunsford's turn.
We did get some visitors . . . .
but also dealt with major distractions.
